Top Ten Books I Would Recommend To Someone Who Has Never Read YA Before
4. Winger- Andrew Smith
Second Chance Summer is an incredibly emotional book. I cried my eyes out reading it, and I feel like it has the right amount of romance, family bonds, summer fun and life lessons in it to make it the perfect introductory book to contemporary.
Jellicoe Road was the perfect blend of contemporary, with some mystery thrown in, as well as an epic war between students. It was just different enough that I couldn’t put it down, and the way everything tied together was brilliantly done.
Winger is perfect for guys, as it’s a male narrator who is absolutely hilarious and completely real in every way. This book has humour, heart, sports and a depth that I wasn’t expecting.
6. The 5th Wave- Rick Yancey
7. Cinder- Marissa Meyer
The 5th Wave has both a male and female narrators, and it is an incredible post apocalyptic story. The paranoia I felt while reading this book was off the charts. My boyfriend has read it and he loved it!
Cinder was probably the most surprising book i’ve ever read. This series is so incredibly original and Meyer’s imagination is incredible, as well as her ability to tie up the plot perfectly. This is one series that fans of retellings, dystopians, sci/fi, romance and humour would love!
This series is great for both guys and girls. My boyfriend has read this one too and absolutely loved it. The writing is stunning and the paranormal aspects are so original and brilliant, I can’t recommend this series enough!
